23-27 July 2012 | The Ritz-Carlton, Santiago, Chile

Organized by Departament of Transport Engineering and Logistics of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile

Day trip

Casablanca Valley
09:00 – 20:00 on Tuesday 24th of July
A day trip, starting around 9 am and finishing around 8 pm, will give us an insight into Chilean winery and the city of Valparaíso, a World Heritage Site since 2003. Buses will pick us up outside The Ritz-Carlton Hotel (conference venue) at 9 am and will take us to Casablanca Valley, known for its white wines. We will take a tour around a vineyard and we will learn about the wine-making process, from the plantation of vineyards to the bottling of wine. Do not miss the chance to taste a Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc or Gewurztraminer! Lunch will be provided at the winery and then we will take the bus again to have the chance to enjoy the crannies, steps, narrow passages, colours, contrasts, and unique charms of Valparaíso. We will go up its hills (by foot and old funiculars), enjoy a panoramic view of the port, and appreciate the murals of the Open Air Museum, with works by Roberto Matta, Mario Toral, Nemesio Antúnez, and María Martner, among others. Also, we will visit La Sebastiana, the home that Pablo Neruda built in Valparaíso in the 1960’s. We should get back to The Ritz-Carlton hotel in Santiago by 8 pm. Make sure that you bring appropriate clothing and footwear. We recommend that you bring comfortable shoes, gloves, hat, and a warm jacket.
